Located in the middle of the sea l’Île de la Fourmigue is a tiny rock lost in the Bay of Lavandou, around 3km from the coast. She is topped by a navigation light to help other boats avoid the same fate that befell the Spahis.
Seeing as the Îlot is very small and quite flat it is exposed to all wind directions (Mistral, Easterly wind…). Anchoring is only possible when the wind is weak. The other option is dropping divers and recovering them as they ascend with an SMB. The South West of the Îlot is the most attractive: there are rocky boulders from a 3m depth until the wreck of the Spahis, found between 18 and 25 metres. At about 80 metres all around the island are fields of seagrass. This is an easy dive site but not necessarily less interesting, despite how busy it can get.
